  • DIY Drone with Programmable Flight Path

    Adrian designed and made this drone in the Central Southland College Technology Department. The control systems of the drone are handled by an Arduino Micro-controller. The drone uses a LiPo battery and four brushless motors. Tilt sensors provide attitude data to control pitch and roll. A GPS unit provides location and altitude data. The drone has facility for a programmable flight path similar to an autopilot. It also has the capacity to "Loiter" in a location and at an altitude determined by GPS triangulation. The main frame was manufactured from aluminium, whilst many of the other components were designed on CAD software before being 3D printed in school.

Sorry for the bad quality of the Canon 600D but it was already getting dark and I do not have a fix lens at the moment. Will get one soon :-). This represents basically the flight done after coming straight from the building bench. The Radian System has been setup just on the bench before that flight and you can see that the stabilization is pretty good. I have also tried to use the Tarot ZYX GS System but was not able to get really decent results out of it. Also it seemed to me that the gains were not stable (Temp Drift e.t.c.)     If you are a multirotor person, you know it can be a real pain when it comes to Program and throttle calibrate many ESCs one by one. Imagine an Octacopter, it can get real confusing and you might just miss one ESC. In this video I will show you how to make simple connectors and custom cables that will make this job a breeze and you can easily program or throttle calibrate 4, 6 or 8 ESCs at one time. This has worked for me so far very well and has saved me a lot of time. For some critical Multirotors I do go programming ESCs and throttle calibrating them one by one still. The 650 is the successor of the famous 730 camera from Sony that carried the first really working optical stabilization system and is quite famous around multicopter flyers. Sorry for the bad quality of the Canon 600D but it was already getting dark and I do not have a fix lens at the moment. Will get one soon :-). This represents basically the flight done after coming straight from the building bench. The Radian System has been setup just on the bench before that flight and you can see that the stabilization is pretty good. I have also tried to use the Tarot ZYX GS System but was not able to get really decent results out of it. Also it seemed to me that the gains were not stable (Temp Drift e.t.c.) No color correction or warping has been applied to the footage. Sensitivity of the DJI Wookong has been set initially to approx. 200 on all parameters.
